The Flying Shear Process
A typical Alpha cutoff consists of a press frame, ram, flywheel and motor, clutch/brake system, single or double cut dieset, a dieset accelerator and high-performance length control systems. In operation, the dieset accelerates to the speed of the tube, the jaws clamp on the tube, the clutch is engaged to actuate the press ram and dieset to cut the tube, the jaws are released upon completion of the cut cycle, the dieset decelerates to a stop and returns to its home position ready for the next cut. The highest performance Alpha cutoffs can perform this entire operation up to 100 times per minute at cut length tolerances of ±.080” (±2 mm).
